Can I add Mica Pigment Powder to House or Artists Paint?

House paints typically contain titanium dioxide as one of it's major components. This is what gives it coverage, opacity and UV stability.  However it does dramatically reduce the pearlescent appearance and reflection of the mica pigment. For this reason we do not suggest you mix it with paint for a pearl effect. The best approach is to put your layer of paint on first and then follow it with a metallic glaze (add pigments to a clear base).

What is Thermochromic?

Thermochromic materials change colour at different temperatures. They change colour or become transparent at a certain temperature. We offer inks for screen printing and spray painting, pigments and plastics suitable for fabric, plastic, wood, paper and more!

You can activate Thermochromic materials by:
Chill and reveal (15°C)
Touch and reveal (27°C)
Rub and reveal (31°C)
Heat and reveal (47°C)

What is the opacity of Thermochromics?
Certain Thermochromic colours (usually Black) hide what is underneath really well. As such, these materials work great when hiding images. Cover lighter colours/graphics using dark coloured Thermochromics. When screen printing, usually more than one pass is required. When screen printing is not practical, or you do not want to use Black, camouflaging and colour matching is the next best option when concealing images.

What chemicals are incompatible with Thermochromics?
Aggressive ingredients including ammonia or polar solvents such as alcohols, acetates should be avoided. These can damage the molecular structure.

Do Thermochromic materials contain heavy metals?
None of our products are made with heavy metals.

What is glows in the dark colors ?
Anything that glows in the dark is known as phosphorescent or photoluminescent.
Phosphors are chemicals that collect energy from light and store the light energy for some time making them glow for hours afterwards, even when the light source is turned off.
Charge these pigments in light first to make them glow in the dark. The longer they are charged, the longer they will hold glow. Our pigments can glow up to 10 hours!
All our phosphorescent products are made using a high grade phosphor called strontium aluminate. This high strength strontium aluminate releases energy more slowly than some other phosphors, making some of the brightest and longest lasting glow-in-the-dark smart materials on the market.

WHAT IS GLOW IN THE DARK? HOW DOES IT WORK?

You can use these pigments in lots of different ways. Our solvent based glow powder can be added to any non-water based medium to create hundreds of different products and projects. Some glowing examples that our products are used in are:

  • Photo luminescent signs; road signage and emergency exits
  • Glow in the dark arts and craft projects
  • Materials, clothing and fashion
  • Halloween products
  • Glowing Toys, stickers and bouncy balls
  • Glow in the dark clock hands and watches

What is the shelf life of your Colour changing pigments?
We guarantee a shelf life of at least 12 months if products are stored in a cool and dark environment. Long term exposure to UV light or elevated temperatures can damage the colour changing effect.
